Each year, students in grades 6 through 12, from nearly 100 schools, participate in the Pittsburgh Regional Science & Engineering Fair (PRSEF), spending up to 12 months developing projects using the scientific method. The fair is supported by foundations, universities, industries, corporations, and professional societies

FIRST Robotics programs encompass elementary through high school students. Pittsburgh is host to several teams and competitions. Fifty-one teams will be competing in the big, Pittsburgh Regional FIRST Robotics Competition.

The Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science (PJAS) is a statewide organization of junior and senior high school students designed to stimulate and promote interest in science among its members through the development of research projects and investigations. Students must conduct their scientific research in 1 of the 12 Scientific Categories of Research and give their oral presentation at the Regional Competition in front of a panel of judges. The students put a lot of effort into their work and deserve recognition by the judges.
